A few weeks ago I over heard Susie (Ladies Class trainer) talking about doing a Hot Yoga class. Not thinking anything of it said " I wouldnt mind doing a class myself"
If you dont know Susie she will hold you to whatever you say. She told me that we would go togther. I got a hold of a former student Chris Ketch who I trained to fight for the 2009 'So you think you can fight' event in Nanaimo. He did 3 weeks of training with me and won his division. Well actually he had to fight in a heavier weight class because there wasnt anyone in his. I had him hooked after that.Chris tarined with me for nearly a year in mma after he won the tournament. Chris is one of the owners of Bodynetix. After contacting him he set Susie and myself up with some passes. I know now how some people can be intimidated walking down to my club. I was a bit nervous before entering but soon changed after seeing that my old friend Cathy Zinc (Kitty) was teaching (another former student of mine). I actually thought they might put me threw hell for all the torture I put them threw in the past but was delighted to find out it was a very comfortable setting. I walked into the class to find out that I was the only male there. Not having any 'yoga gear' I felt kinda out of place wearing my mma shorts and soccer top but what you wear doesnt really matter as long as your comfortable. It was hot in the studio but I have trained in Thailand in much hotter conditions and holding a pose isnt as grueling as hitting the focus mitts or sparring. I enjoyed the class. The different stretches and how quiet it the room was made it easy to focus. I wasnt able to do all the poses but didnt feel like I was far off. I am flexible for a big man and do a few of the stretches that were covered in classes of my own down at the club. I have to say that it was well taught and am looking forward to my next class. Hot Yoga at Bodynetix will be added to my own training shedule in the future. I would like to thank Chris Ketch and Susie for making this happen!

One of the dreams I had in the back of my mind when taking over the boxing club was to offer as many classes as possible for one low cost. In the past it was only myself teaching. Now I have over 9 people teaching in a variety of classes.
This week we added 2 new types of classes. First was the stregth and conditioning class. Taught by Bill Fraser and Andre Romanov. We offer this class 3 days a week following the Beginners Kickboxing class. The second new class is our strtch and flexibility class taught by Nova Dickinson. This class is every Saturday afternoon. I had a sample of each one of these classes. After each strength and conditioning class I felt that light head feeling you get from an awesome workout. This class is excellent for people that want to step it up to a higher level in any sort of training. You dont even need to be training to fight to benifit form this class. People pay a lot of money to get this kind of instruction! I finished the week sore and stiff because its been a while since I have trained. I figured that a good stretch would relax thes sore muscles. I was right. I felt so relaxed afterward that I drove straight home and had an awesome nap. I welcome anyone with the desire to to get in better shape to come down to the club and try any one of our classes. It can be intimidating to walk into any fitness center so I can imagine what people feel like before coming down to a boxing club. I assure you that you will feel comfortable in about 10 minutes and by the end of your first class you will feel like you are part of a huge family. Egos are left at the door or you are not welcome! We have a great staff and our student are ALL respectful. I have a lot of news in the very close future to talk about so drop in on my blog once and a while and see what we have going on. Last weekend I had the privilege of attending the command judging course that was set up by Big John McCarthy at the River Rock Casino in Richmond.
By far one of the most educational mma coarses you can possibly take. As a coach and fighter you think you know what the judges are thinking in a fight but there are many areas where you might be wrong. I knew before taking this course that about 20 % of people actually pass, so thinking that I can just show up without studying and going over EVERY move and submission would have been stupid. I had scored 87% on my tests but in order to pass you need at least 90%. You might think that it is a little strict but do you really want (as a fighter) to have a guy judging your fight not know everything? It wouldn't be fair to you if you had an amazing move or strike and score but the judge didnt recognize it, and credit you for it. I understand this and accept that I didnt pass but I want to challenge the test again. This is why: We start the coarse Saturday morning at 8 am and run till 6pm. As soon as we finish the course, myself and 8 others are hurried over to officiate at Battlefield Fight League. The fights run until 12pm. We have to be back at the coarse at 7am. NO time to study and we all have about 5 hours sleep. Many of us only had time for a coffee. The sound on the video is not working and darkness on the screen makes it hard to see from my angle. My head was like scrambled eggs by the time we took the test at 6pm. Not making up excuses but I think that that played a big part on the extra 3% that it took to pass. If anything I came out of this course confident that I learned quite a bit about MY sport and the knowledge I learned will help everyone in my club and the people I will be judging in the future. Jonny Mac I finally got off my butt and met up with our web designer to try to learn how to use our website properly. It will be a learning process but I am ready to start adding pictures and weekly blogs.
We will be adding classes to our schedule as of Jan 17th and adjusting times which you will be able to see right here on our website. I wasnt aware of this but we have an average of over 100 hits a day on this site. That has motivated me to keep the site up to date. I will be posting pictures, class info, specials, videos and fight result as they come. I can be reached here on the website. If you go to the toolbar and click on "contact us' you will be directed right to my phone. Remember I do get punched in the head lot so if I dont get back to you right away just send me a friendly reminder. This is going to be a great year at CVBC. I hope you can join us to be part of it. Ciao for now! Sitting in Zocalo Cafe with Pieter from CP-SMS, re-learning to edit the site.
