One of the most asked questions people ask me is "what type of glove should I buy?" I understand why this is asked often. So many shapes, sizes, weights, colours , prices and design. It can be very confusing and you might just settle for something that is flashy and pretty. Choosing the right glove is very important. Not only can it decrease the chance of getting hurt but you want something that is comfortable and will not fall apart. The truth is that the longer you spend in the sport of boxing the more money you will be willing to sink into boxing gear. You will have a collection of gloves in your bag for training. Dont run out and buy $200 dollar gloves but you dont buy the $25 dollar pair at Walmart either. When buying a pair of gloves you will have to look for not only a good price but also something with durability, knuckle protection, wrist support, comfort, fit and size. Most gyms will have you working the bag or focus mitts to start to get your body into fight shape. You will want a 12oz bag glove or heavier 16oz glove if you want to develope stronger shoulders and get a better workout. Something tough that can take the constant contact from the bag. If you plan on sparring, you shouldn't be using your beat up bag gloves and should get a good pair of (partner friendly) sparring gloves. At our club we all have to work in the morning so we spar with 16oz. Here are some of my favorite gloves I like in no specific order. Twins, Rival, Top King, Cleto Reeves and Boon for beginner training. They are all around the $100 to 175 price range. They will last and are very supportive around the wrist and knuckles. I always insist on trying on gloves before buying them. Here in the Comox Valley we have Fitness etc. They carry a large selection of gloves and their staff has a lot of knowledge of the brands they carry. Remember this....the glove does not make the fighter, but having the right gloves can help.

Hi everyone. It's been almost a year since I posted anything here on the website. Sorry ...I'm not too savy when it comes to computer stuff but I promise to try to learn. Our schedule is up to date and will be running classes throughout the summer. Its a great time to get started if you are a beginner classes are smaller in the summer months and you get a more time with the coaches. I am going to keep it short today but please stay tuned because plan on writing more often. |
