Our Boxing vs Parkinson's program started last November under the guidance of myself, the staff and members of the Comox Valley Boxing Club. When I became aware of the interest some people in the community with Parkinson's had in trying boxing I invited the group to the club along with fitness instructor Jill Nelson (who had contacted me about the group) They fell in love with it and the classes began and continue every friday from 2:30 until 3:30pm
This high intensity class combines exercises largely adapted from boxing routines which focus on optimal agility, speed, muscular endurance, accuracy, hand-eye coordination, footwork and overall strength to defend against and overcome opponents. In this case the opponent is Parkinson's The class includes footwork drills, slip lines, double end bags, heavy bags, speed/timing bags and partner drills. Boxing gloves are not essential but desired for comfort and safety. As one woman said in class once " As soon as I put on those gloves and hit the bag, i felt a sense of power." She also said that when her Parkinson's symptoms began, she felt like a stranger had taken over her body. Now she feels like she has some control. Studies show that by working on these skills, participants have the potential to slow down the progression of their disease and improve their quality of life. If you or someone you know with Parkinson's are interested in trying a class, please just show up before 2:30. Bring a pair of clean indoor shoes , drinking water and there is a nominal $5 fee. FMI contact myself at 250-898-7444 or Parkinson's Support group member Anne at 250-897-1657

If you have Parkinson's & want to give this class a try, you will not be sorry. Jonny is the best at what he does & adapts the workout to the person., no matter how much Parkinson's has it's nasty grasp on your body. We are a group of many levels of ability and everyone of us have a smile on our face from the start of the class to the well earned end!! Come on down, you won't regret it!!!!

I was diagnosed 2 years ago at age 63. Symptoms were tremor in right leg, loss of handwriting ability,My normally beautiful cursive writing was now small cramped printing and soft voice. I also had difficulty rising from a seated position and have balance issues. I started out taking only Azilect, then Mirapex, and then Sinemet. Several months ago I started falling frequently, hence the reason for Sinemet. During the summer of 2021, I was introduced to Health Herbs Clinic and their effective Parkinson’s herbal protocol. This protocol relieved symptoms significantly, even better than the medications I was given. Visit www . healthherbsclinic . com , After First month on treatment, my tremors mysterious stopped, had improvement walking. After I completed the treatment, all symptoms were gone. I live a more productive life. I was fortunate to have the loving support of my husband and family. I make it a point to appreciate every day!
