Exciting Changes Coming to the Club!
This has been a couple of years in the making, but I’m thrilled to announce that Coach Anthony is joining us full-time! He’s been making the trip up to Courtenay once or twice a week to help develop our competition classes, but now he’ll be here four nights a week working with not just our competitors but also beginners (adults) and intermediates. This means more training opportunities and a faster path to becoming a great boxer—or just getting in incredible shape.
Here’s what else is changing:
Kickboxing with Myles Lohman – Mondays & Wednesdays at 5:00 PM
Power Half-Hour (Strength & Conditioning) with Coach Simão Diaz – Mondays & Wednesdays
"Off the Hook" with Coach Chantal Swayze – Now starts 15 minutes later at 7:30 PM on Tuesdays & Thursdays
Youth Classes – Same schedule, now run by Coach Dawson, Coach Myles, and me
If you’re already a member, your fees haven’t increased… yet. New pricing and our updated schedule will be posted soon on our website: www.cvboxingclub.com
More classes, more coaching, more opportunities—see you in the gym!

Catching Up:
A Busy Few Months at the Gym! It’s been a minute since our last update, but that doesn’t mean we haven’t been busy! The past few months have been packed with competition, training, and exciting moments for our fighters. Here’s a quick recap of what’s been happening at the gym.
Bronze Gloves Success Back in September, we had six of our amateur boxers step into the ring at the Bronze Gloves in Chilliwack. While not every match went our way, our fighters showed heart, gained valuable experience, and came back stronger. We had 3 guys come home with the belts. CJ, Dawson and Caleb
Ty Cunningham’s Winning Streak Ty Cunningham (16) has been on fire! With a 6-1 record and a five-fight winning streak, he recently faced a tough rematch against Arashjot Badesha in Aldergrove after winning their first bout by split decision. This young fighter continues to impress, and we’re excited to see what’s next for him.
Friday Night Fights at Griffins February saw three of our athletes competing at Griffins Boxing Club’s Friday Night Fights #93 in North Vancouver. CJ Halfkenny (15, 2-0), Fjord "Pan" Race (14), and Michael Charalambidis (22) all stepped into the ring, determined to prove themselves after overcoming recent setbacks.
New Faces & Fresh Energy Beyond competition, the gym has been buzzing with new members taking up boxing for fitness, fun, and competition. Our exchange student from Brazil even wrote a fantastic testimonial about their experience training with us—proof that our community extends far beyond just the ring. More to Come! We’re back in action with more updates, fight announcements, and gym news coming soon. Thanks for sticking with us—we’ll see you in the gym!

  • CVBC is the only chartered boxing club and has the the only certified boxing coaches North of Parksville.

Training at a chartered boxing club offers several benefits compared to non-chartered clubs, especially in terms of safety, legitimacy, and access to opportunities:
  • 1. Regulated Standards: Chartered clubs are affiliated with recognized boxing organizations, which ensures they follow standardized rules, training protocols, and safety measures. This helps ensure proper technique is taught, reducing injury risks.
  • 2. Certified Coaches: Trainers in chartered clubs are typically certified, which means they have passed courses in coaching, first aid, and athlete development, providing athletes with a higher level of expertise and care. They also have a yearly criminal record check and have been screened through the RCMP.
  • 3. Access to Competitions: Chartered clubs often have access to sanctioned competitions and tournaments.
  • This is crucial for boxers who want to advance to higher levels, including amateur or professional careers.
  • 4. Safety and Insurance: Affiliated clubs offer their members some form of insurance, which is vital in a contact sport like boxing. This adds a layer of protection for athletes in case of injuries during training or competition.
  • 5. Reputation and Networking: Chartered clubs are often well-connected within the boxing community, offering boxers opportunities to network, train with other top athletes, and get noticed by scouts or promoters.
  • 6. Development Programs: Chartered clubs often offer structured development programs that cater to various levels of boxing, from beginners to advanced competitors, helping boxers progress in a more organized and efficient way.

Fairness in sports

Picture
At CVBC, we believe in fostering an inclusive environment that promotes fairness and equality for all female athletes.
To that end, i make a pledge that we will not allow any of our female boxers to compete against biological males, and we will only attend events that uphold this principle.

Benefits of Boxing Training in the Summer Months

Boxing training offers numerous benefits year-round, but the summer months can amplify its advantages. Here's a quick look at why summer is an ideal time for boxing:

**1. Increased Caloric Burn:** The summer heat boosts your metabolism, helping you burn more calories during intense boxing workouts.

**2. Enhanced Endurance:** Training in warmer weather improves your stamina and cardiovascular health as your body adapts to the heat.

**3. Better Flexibility:** Warm temperatures make your muscles more pliable, reducing the risk of injury and improving flexibility.

**4. Mental Toughness:** Pushing through the discomfort of summer heat builds mental resilience, which can benefit all areas of your life.

**5. Vitamin D Boost:** Outdoor training in the summer sun increases your Vitamin D levels, essential for bone health and mood regulation.

**6. Improved Hydration Habits:** The necessity to stay hydrated in the heat helps develop better hydration practices, crucial for overall health.

**7. Stress Relief and Confidence:** The physical exertion and rhythmic nature of boxing relieve stress and boost confidence as you see progress.

Summer boxing training combines physical and mental benefits with the joy of outdoor workouts, making it an excellent choice for anyone looking to enhance their fitness routine. So, grab your gloves and take advantage of the sunny season to elevate your training!e to edit.

I know its been a while since my last post and I apologize. Anyone who knows me would tell you I dont spend much time in front of a computer. My time away from the gym is usually at some remote lake or in the mountains hiking with my dogs.
I am posting this mid July and letting people know that our schedule is up to date and will be running classes as posted.
The best way to get a hold of me is 250-898-7444 (text is best) or fb messenger under Jonny Mac or Comox Valley Boxing Club page.
