I woke up this morning and gave my friend Marc St Jules a call. I phoned to ask him if he wanted to get together for a workout. I should probably have a coffee before making lifes decisions when it comes to my health because when it comes to workouts Marc doesnt mess around. For you that dont knnow Marc he is a leader in the fitness industry. When I say leader I mean he invents workouts and equipment. He is not traditional and thinks outside the box. When I got to his house he met me out in the driveway. I thought he was doing some spring cleaning because he had a little red wagon with a bunch of odds and ends but this was the gear we were going to be using for our morning workout. I had no idea what challenge I had in front of me but it was sh*t or get off the pot. We wheeled the little red wagon over to the playground and that is where our gym was going to be today. We started with a light warm up followed by a very creative workout. I will try to explain this workout the best I can. It started by doing push ups from different body angles and grip on various areas of the jungle gym. Followed by some pull ups and Deuce Boots sit ups(named from the movie Deuce Bigalow where he smashed the fish tank) We did some barbell curl/ squat / throws, sled runs, elastic rippers. We hit the pads and focus mitts. Skipped rope and we jumped on one foot around the jungle gym on 6 inches of loose gravel. I hated that one. There were a few other exercises that I cant really explain but after all said and done I worked every muscle in my body and my heart was pumping like it was going to go thru my chest. We are going to offering a simular workout in the near future with the inclusion an extra workout partner. Chris Ketch. Another leader in the fitness industry. If you would like to sign up for this killer workout please message myself or Marc and we will put you on the list . We will be able to give you more info on cost and the

I spent my Easter Monday down at ink Nation today. I finished colour on my half sleeve that I started back in December. An hour here, a couple hours there and now I am 95% done. A couple touch ups and some shading and it will be complete.
I would highly suggest booking time with Mike Leblac if you are looking at getting some ink done. He is very talented and puts time into being creative. Ink Nation has always been a supporter of the Comox Valley Boxing Club Here is a link to their facebook page. http://www.facebook.com/IronInkTattoo?ref=ts#!/pages/INK-Nation/198815816811365 4 fighters that use the Comox Valley Boxing Club as one of their training facilities will be squaring off next weekend in Victoria at the Bear Mountain arena. The event is AFC 8
Nathan Swayze (2-2) vs Derek Mrak (0-0) 205 Alexi Argyriou vs Guy Gauthier 155 Chris Anderson vs Bronson Petterson 185 Dustin Joynson vs Dylan Moore Heavyweight They have been using the Boxing club as a meeting place most Tuesday and thursdays night for sparring. CVBC is known for its great sparring program bringing fighters in from all over the island. I have watched and been on the on the receiving side of many of brutal workouts these talented athletes have endured and know that they will be in ready to be at their best on fight night. Andrew Buckland has had in hand in their training. Swayze is coming off a 3 round battle against Brad Robinson at AFC 7 where he won by decision. Since then he has been juggling a business (Vancouver Island Masonry) a family and trying to find time to train for next fight. He is also training follow teammate Mike Hackert for his fight against Tim Hague. This might be too much for 99% of us out there. Nathan is the type of guy that thrives from that. He will be the best " Roadhouse" that ever entered the cage. Mrak might only have a record of 0-0 as a pro but has been in the cage many times as an amateur. This will be not be an easy match but Nathan wont dissapoint. This one might not go the distance. Guy Gauthier took his last fight on a few days notice against a veteran to combat sports Johnny Williams. Not only was it short notice but it was his first fight. He might not have one that fight but it was very close and if he had any experience he would have come out on top. He is up against one of Zuma's young prodigies. This will be a big test for both of them. I am looking forward to see this match. Chris Anderson vs Bronson Petersen. This is a huge grudge match. These guys hate each other and I highly doubt that this one will go the distance. They both possess great talent but Anderson has been putting in the time to get better every day. This one can go either way win one punch. Dylan Moore used to be 10 thaousand pound. Just kidding. He was around 300 and had to make 265 to be at the maximum weight to be in the HW division. Not only has he made that weight he keeps trimmimg up and getting more agile. Dillon has been going toe to toe with Mike Hackert holding his own so I dont see him being scared of any punches. His opponent is from Zuma so we know that he is working as hard and is getting top training as they have probably the best coachiing in Canada. This one might come down to who has the biggest heart and who can go the distance. There is a lot of talent forming out of the North Island. More then ever before. I am very happy to be of the part of it. There is a deal on cvbc members and family for rooms at the Bear Mountain Resort. For more info please contact Elma at the club. For tickets to the event go to http://www.armageddonfc.com/ Andrew Buckland returns to the MFC ring May 4th in Edmonton Alberta to face Jamie "the Ghost" Toney. Buckland a late replacement for BC's Ryan Chiappe. The fight is set at a catch weight of 175lbs.
Both these fighters have simular winning records (Buckland's 15-7 vs Toney's 15- 7 ) This will prove to be a fight. Buckland is just coming off a big win clinching the BFL middleweight title. His confidence is high and is ready to shed the extra pounds needed to make the catch weight. This fight will be shown in millions of homes live on HDNET on the main card. Here is Mike's second and third installment of his blog leading up to his fight against Canada's number 1 ranked heavyweight Tim Hague in Fort Mac May 18th.

Mike never to be the one to take an easy fight will be taking on Canada's no.1 heavyweight and ufc vet Tim Hague May 18th in Fort Mac Alberta on the Prestige FC 4 card. This will be the fight that could open the door for him to bigger promotions. He is taking his training very seriously and everyone at the club is pitching in to help him get ready.
We wont be giving away any secrets on his training but will be keeping tabs on him as he gets ready for his big fight February 23, 2012 4:00 PM
Andrew Buckland is Battlefield Fight League's new pro middleweight champion. Last Saturday night in Vernon, in an MMA card carried live on The Fight Network, the Comox Valley Boxing Club coach dominated Matt Baker of Kamloops to win the crown. Early in the first round Buckland landed a left roundhouse kick to Baker's head, but Baker pushed forward to take Buckland down and tried for a guillotine. He spent some time trying, but Buckland has been in this position many times and fought his way out. Now with top position, Buckland rained down damage with some ground and pound. Oddly enough the ref stood the fighters up and Baker came in swinging wildly. Buckland took Baker to the ground and mounted him, landing some big blows to finish the round. The second round was much like the first as Baker came out swinging wildly. Buckland, with better control, landed some leg kicks and a few combinations that appeared to break Baker's nose. Buckland landed a few knees from the clinch and took Baker back to the ground where he inflicted more damage with punches and elbows. "This round was dominated by Buckland," said CVBC owner Jonny Mac. Going into the third round Buckland was landing unchecked leg kicks and another round house kick to Baker's head. Baker attempted a failed spinning back fist and ended up being taken down to his back again. Baker tried for an armbar, but again Buckland's experience got him out. Baker scambled but there was nowhere to go. Buckland sank in an arm in guillotine which forced Baker to tap. "Buckland's hand was raised to become the first pro middleweight champion for the Battlefield organization," Mac said. "Andrew just joined us this year down at the boxing club and teaches every Tuesday and Thursday night at 6 p.m. "You don't need any experience to learn what he has to offer – all you need is a great attitude. For more info on our schedule you can find us at www.cvboxingclub.com or Comox Valley Boxing Club on Facebook. You can also follow us at cvboxingclub on Twitter," Mac noted. |
